Luckily we got out of Kansas City just before the storms hit Sunday night. After an eight hour flight from Chicago we’ve arrived safe and sound in Copenhagen. Today the skies were overcast and temps in the low 60s—perfect urban exploration weather. After checking into our hotel at 3:00PM we hit the streets to exercise our legs. We wandered past the Central Station, the Tivoli, and down Stroget, which is the main pedestrian shopping area in the city. Our first stop was a dinner buffet at Riz Raz, located along a narrow street/pedestrian alleyway. This was a great spot for people watching and getting acquainted with our new surroundings. With full bellies, our walk continued onwards to Slotsholmen (an island in the city which has eight connecting bridges) and Bertel Thorvaldsen Square. From here we wandered towards Nyhavn to see the colorful Dutch-style town houses along the canal. Just as the poster in the airport promised, this is Copenhagen! After admiring the countless cafes and large boats docked to the canal edge, it was time for us to head back to our hotel to rest up for tomorrow’s urban bike adventure.
